
Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, has hosted the country’s team who reached the final of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany to a dinner in Abuja.
Nigeria lost 1-0 to hosts Germany in the final of the tournament on Sunday.
Patience Jonathan praised the girls for doing the nation proud in Germany by becoming the first African team to reach the final of a FIFA women’s tournament.
“This reception is to show our appreciation for lifting Nigeria in world soccer and very soon Mr. President will accord you as well as the Golden Eaglets a presidential reception,” said the wife of country’s President.
Nigeria’s minister of education, Ruqayyatu Rufai, announced free education for the girls, while sports minister, Ibrahim Bio, told the girls they should see themselves as world champions.
